Hey, I’m finally home. Well I reached home approximately an hour ago. So yeah, I spent 6 days in Penang and 2 days in Sungai Petani, Kedah. Reasons why I dislike going back to my mum’s hometown, I tend to eat a lot, like really A LOT, every 2 hours ? okay, something like that, but not exactly 2 hours. The food there is mouth watering and irresistable, plus my mum end’s up offering to drive us places just to find a really good mee goreng or char kuey teow , sigh. I did mention before that everytime during Chinese New Year, we Cheah’s are bound to succumb to 7 meals a day, (our surname sounds similiar to a certain Hokkien word, which means eat) I think food helps to form a bond and create relations between people.

who doesn’t like good food ??

Anyway, my cheeks feel fatter, and arms look meatier. Nevermind that. Shopping in Penang was pathetic. With mum around, the only DVD’s I purchased were Horton Hears a Who (& that’s cos’ she wants to watch it) What a shame really, went all the way to Penang, and all I come back with is 1 DVD (why does this sentence sound wrong) Other than that, 2 hair clips, more bangles & earrings ! I don’t know why, I just have this amazing fascination for bracelets, bangles, anklets and earrings, particularly the ethnic styled one’s. I go gaga over them. I am not a necklace or ring fan, which explains the lack of either in my jewellery container. Being half indian might be the cause for my certain preferences.

Oh yeah, I was talking to my mum about my heritage, and she said “your quite a rojak kid you know ?” which made me think, I’m half Indian and Chinese, what could possibly be so tremendously mixed up about that ? Of course that was before we started discussing about hometown’s, birth places and my descendants and ancestors. Conclusion, Singapore, Kedah, Penang, KL, Shah Alam, India, China, Japan & Persia (Iran).
pretty mixed up right ?
summary, Asia & Middle East.
now that doesn’t sound so rojak :)

Reason why we were discussing about that. I’ve always had this peculiar interest about my family’s background, particularly my dad’s, who in the past one year has spent a majority of his free time doing research on his family background and discovering their origins, which in the end explains why my dad’s skin colour differs from the normal South Indians. They were one of the first few Indian people to settle in Malaysia. My dad looks more Pakistani, think President Musharaff.

Plus, while at the BRATs camp, I did meet quite a few mixed blood kids too. Example, Rebekah Dawn Ba’oh Ritchie (I prefer Rebekah Dawn or Rebekah Ritchie, very glamorous, LOL) who’s Kelabit and English, who I bet is much much more complexed, in terms of heritage, and my roomates Diyana, who’s Malay plus this plus that (now she is one rojak kid, explains why I can’t remember her heritage) and Vinotha (Vino a.k.a the one and only legend :P) I didn’t even know she was Chindian, cos’ she looks way more Indian (maternal)

I have a sudden urge to watch A Walk To Remember
(this shall be my gazillionth time watching it)

I remember being an innocent 10 year old, begging a old friend of mine to lend me her A Walk to Remember VCD ( DVD’s were yet to take it’s toll ) By the end of the movie, I had no idea what to feel, I know I wanted to cry, so I watched it again and again, and again. Every year onwards, I never failed to rewatch the movie. I have no idea how to explain it, think The Notebook.

plus, I loveLOVElove the soundtrack :D

I shall end this babbling-filled post here,
till the next.

p/s. there is nothing wrong about being nerd :)

& I mean it.
